EARN Celebrates Remarkable WomenIn recognition of Women’s History Month and of International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8, EARN is dedicating this month’s weekly e-blasts to highlighting outstanding women with disabilities. The first woman featured is Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth, who represents Illinois’ 8th District. Ms. Duckworth was one of the first women to fly combat missions in Iraq as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot. In November 2004, she lost both legs and the use of her right arm in an explosion when her helicopter was hit by an RPG. An advocate for her fellow soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital, Ms. Duckworth went on to serve as Director of Illinois’ Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and in 2009 was appointed Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs by President Obama. Ms. Duckworth was elected to the Illinois state congress in November 2012. Click here to read more about Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth. For more information and resources, visit www.AskEARN.org
