The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) recently issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) proposing updates to Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act, which requires affirmative action and nondiscrimination in the employment of people with disabilities by federal agencies of the executive branch. Federal employers and other stakeholders are encouraged to comment on the NPRM by April 25, 2016 — and to assist them in translating the proposed changes, the Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion (EARN) has prepared a helpful summary and policy brief. It synopsizes the key provisions in the NPRM and can be used by federal agencies as a roadmap to begin the process of developing updated policies and practices that conform to Section 501.
