Absence and Disability Management Policies

Learn more about employee absenteeism, its causes and how to manage it. 

Absenteeism can take numerous forms, and be caused by factors such as illness, injury or low morale. It can decrease workplace productivity and increase operating costs. Employers can address the causes and mitigate the impact of employee absenteeism by implementing effective absence and disability management policies outlined in this brief, including managing leave as a part of alternative and flexible work arrangements, following guidance about federal and state family and medical leave laws, implementing workplace health and wellness programs and employee assistance programs, and managing leave as a reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
